Your first visit, step by step
It takes about an hour, here or at home. A physical therapist treats you from the start.
- 01
Step 1: Before you come
We check your benefits and call you. If you pay yourself, we send a written estimate first.
- 02
Step 2: You arrive
Someone from the front desk meets you at the door, or your therapist knocks at yours. Bring your medicines list and your cane or walker.
- 03
Step 3: We talk
Your therapist asks what you want to do again, and listens. Family members can join.
- 04
Step 4: We examine you
Strength, balance, how you stand, turn and walk. We explain what we find and what the risks and choices are.
- 05
Step 5: We agree on a plan
What we will work on, how often to come and what to practice at home. You decide with us.
What to wear and bring
Wear what you can move in, and shoes you can walk in. At a home visit, wear what you would wear at home.
Your cane, walker or brace, if you use one
A list of your medicines and your doctors
Your glasses and your hearing aids
A family member or friend, if you would like

What is not decided on day one
How long you will need us
That depends on what your therapist finds and how you respond. We go over it as we go.
Whether to keep going
Your first visit does not commit you to anything. You can stop, or change where we meet, at any time.
What you pay beyond the estimate
Nothing is added without telling you first. See how fees work for the details.
